What precautions do you take during a severe thunderstorm while in the outdoors? Anyone have any close encounters?

If you are in your tent on your rest pad, the electrical shock could be conducted around you. Just make sure you are not on the roots of the tallest tree in the vicinity. I also assume you are not on the lake in your aluminum canoe.

why would you be in your tent on the lake in your aluminum canoe? That's an odd place to sleep or to weather a storm.
