Perfect pants for the BWCAW

Anyone familiar with life in the outdoors knows that good clothing is imperitive. Clothing has to be functional, dependable, and long lasting. Enter Mountain Hardwear's Convertible Pants. After over a year of use, I've found them to be an excellent pair of pants to fit the bill.

They feature a double layer of Supplex twill that is water resistant, strong, but also comfortable, and breathable. With reinforced knees and seat, it is not easily torn in these well used areas. Inside you'll find soft microfiber chamois that lines the waist area. The legs have a slight angle at the knees to match the natural curve of the leg, ankles zippers for removing with your boots on, and a rip cord around the ankle to keep those pesky wood ticks fighting to get at your legs.

The left front pocket has a clip on a cord for securing your keys in your pocket. The right pocket has a small zippered subpocket that is perfect for keeping money or coins from falling out.

Some features are not so perfect, but are mostly just small annoyances such as the built in belt doesn't really allow you to attache your leatherman very easily. The back pockets are like front pockets facing backwards and although they are easier to get your hand into than traditional back pockets, they sometimes catch on things like door knobs and branches.

The price is heafty, but in my opinion well worth it. I've had these pants for almost a year and they have made three trips to the BWCA in this time.  Each time performing much better than any other pant I have worn.  I've also used them for all my outdoor activities such as hunting, berry picking, hiking, tree climbing, rock climbing, and more.

Order yourself a pair, more than likely you'll be like me and order a second pair.  The cheapest I've found these is at a motorcycle store at the following address.

For those of us that don't

For those of us that don't have loads of money stuffed in those expensive pants, military issue camouflage pants does the job very suitable.

They can usually be bought at an army surplus store for quite cheap.
