Duluth Pack Boundary Waters Packs

shane's picture

I live near Duluth and have been to the Duluth Pack store several times and taken a look at the various packs they offer. Made in the USA and come with a lifetime guarantee, they are not cheap.

I've never owned a Duluth Pack, but I have used just an old army duffel that suits my needs fine. I'm wondering if the price for the Duluth Pack is worth it? Has anyone ripped their pack and had it repaired?

Thanks.

I have a bag from Duluth Pack

I have spent some time in there operations center and have seen some of the leather and canvas bags that have come back for repair - Some are from 100 years ago and are simply exchanged for a new pair. The ones that are repairable are done so only if they can be fixed as good as new otherwise they are simply exchanged out for a new one. I am not sure how they can afford to do this. I think people get emotionally attached to their pack and end up retiring the pack in their cabin as decor rather then getting a new one.

These packs at http://www.duluthpack.com are simply the best.

Duluth Packs

I've got three Duluth packs that I have used in the BWCA and other camping trips for over thirty years. One pack was given to me by a friend and had been used by an outfitter and was old when I got it. I've never had to repair any and they are tough. All of my packs are canvas (standard weight) with leather straps. Two are envelope type construction and one is the squared off food pack type. These three make a well balanced, compact canoe load for me and a partner. The leather straps need to be oiled with some neatsfoot oil from time to time and the packs should be stored where they won't mildew. All of the Duluth pack products are top quality in my opinion. I don't think they have to replace many free or otherwise. WALT

Where are you Walt? We are looking for two packs. This year is 30 years since my first trip and the first time that I haven't been able to borrow my sisters packs.
