I've never used the canoe seat back rests that I see on some canoes. Are these helpful? Do they keep your back from getting sore, or do they just give you some suport when you want to sit back and let the guy in the front do all the work?

Canoe back rest
Sunday July 29th 2007those back rest are alot of help they not only give support but help so you dont get a sore back.
Just make sure you buy one
Tuesday August 14th 2007Just make sure you buy one that secures to the canoe seat. I've seen them in the store just today that don't have any way of securing to the seat. It would be nice for around camp as a seat, but usless in the canoe (except as a duffer).
Canoe Seat
Saturday March 7th 2009My dad (Lazy Ike) is my bow man and he uses an old steel framed, thinly padded folding stadium seat. He glued an old piece of carpet to the bottom to prevent any damage to the canoe seat. It only works from the front as it does not attach and releys on butting up against the front thwart which is just behind the bow seat on an aluminum canoe. There is little or no side to side sliding. He bought it years ago I think at a garage sale. Last August during our week long base camp trip to Ensign Lake he had no complaints about a sore back from sitting in the canoe. However the old boy is 78 years old and did have a few words about my character building leaky tent, and sore forearms from fighting too many walleyes and smallmouth bass!
Canoe seat
Thursday April 9th 2009My dad cup-o-coffee,gave an accurate description of my canoe seat. I would'nt go canoeing without it. I can sit in the canoe all day and by the end of the day I don't have a sore or aching back. As for the sore arms from catching lots of fish, a couple of extra strength tylonol takes care of that. The next time I go to the BW with cup-o-coffee we will have a different tent. One that I don't have to wear my rain gear in bed.
