Any way to keep eggs

leslie's picture

I'd like to take eggs on my trip, but not sure if they will keep more than a day or so.  Does anyone keep eggs (powered?) or some other way to have a nice breakfast 3-4 days into the trip?

Thanks ahead of time.

Farm Fresh

Farm fresh eggs (have not been refrigerated) will keep for several days, up to a week I think. The only drawback is keeping those eggs from cracking, but you can pack them in a nalgene with rice or popcorn seeds, killing two birds with one stone (pun intended).

Another way that works for a couple days (2-3) is crack a bunch of eggs in a nalgene so it's 3/4 full. Then freeze it, keep it as cold as you can. Don't fill it all the way as the eggs expand when they freeze. Not even a nalgene can stop ice from expanding. By day two, the eggs are liquid again so I wouldn't stretch them too far. You can try insulating the nalgene as well to keep them frozen longer.

Nalgene

I have read that putting those farm fresh eggs in a nalgene filled with flower works well. The flower will keep them from cracking, and insulate them a bit.So many lakes so little time
