Obtaining a Permit

Getting a permit for the dates that you want to spend in the BWCA is pretty straight forward. Keep in mind that you'll want to plan your trip at least 2-3 months in advance if your itinerary is flexible, otherwise 6-12 months in advance if your schedule is fixed.

Where to Begin

The two most important things to establish are an entry date and an entry point. Once you have that the rest is down stream paddling.

Information Needed to Reserve a Permit

  • Entry point
  • Arrival date
  • Estimated exit date
  • Trip Leader's name, address, postal code and telephone number
  • Estimated number of people and watercraft
  • Permit issuing station
  • Method of payment (i.e. credit card number and expiry date)
